Two children named Duranta Chandra Das and Apurba Chandra Das died tragically after drowning in a pond in Gaibandha Sadar Upazila.
The tragic incident took place on Thursday afternoon in Daspara of Chuniakandi village of Badiakhali Union of the upazila.
According to relatives and local sources, the two children went missing after falling into the water while playing near the pond near their house. Later, family members started searching for them. At one stage, they were found floating in the pond and were rescued.
Later, it is learnt that they died before the locals could quickly rescue them and take them to the hospital.
The incident has cast a shadow of mourning over the area. The atmosphere around them became heavy with the wailing of the family members.
