In line with Middle Eastern countries including Saudi Arabia, devotees from a section of local villages celebrated the holy Eid-ul-Azha in Palashbari Upazila of Gaibandha a day before the prevailing rules of the country. Discussions and criticisms have arisen in the area regarding the celebration of Eid a day before the prevailing rules of the country.
On Wednesday (May 27), around 9:30 am, an Eid congregation was held on the roof of a privately owned building in Madhyapara, Ghorabandha village, Taluk Ghorabandha of Manoharpur Union of the upazila. Hafez Rezwan Islam Akand led the congregation and delivered the sermon.
Although it was raining heavily in the area since morning, devotees came to participate in the congregation, ignoring the adverse weather. About 20-21 devotees, including children, offered Eid prayers at the scheduled time. After the prayers, they hugged each other and exchanged Eid greetings.
Harun Mia (50), Abdul Razzak (45) and Shahin Mia (55), worshippers from Rawshanbagh area of ââRamchandrapur union in Sadar upazila, who participated in the prayers, said that they came here to celebrate Eid in line with Saudi Arabia. They also said that they have been celebrating Eid in advance like this for the last 16 years.
Local resident Yunus Sarkar (65) said that about 5-6 families in their village have been celebrating Eid in line with Middle Eastern countries for a long time. After the prayers, they have prepared to sacrifice two animals today.
Meanwhile, the local administration has taken precautionary measures to avoid any kind of unpleasant situation surrounding the celebration of Eid a day before the prevailing rules of the country. A team of Palashbari police station was deployed at the spot to maintain the law and order situation.
