âMurderers have killed thousands of fish by poisoning a fish pond in Bishnupur village of Bhatra union in Ramganj upazila of Lakshmipur. The owner of the pond has claimed to have suffered a loss of about 2 million taka.
It is learnt that the incident took place in the fish pond of Mofazzal Hossain, a fish trader from Bishnupur village of Ward No. 4 of Bhatra union of the upazila, early on Monday (January 12).
The owner of the pond, Mofazzal Hossain, said that at some point on Sunday night, the miscreants poisoned the fish pond and escaped. When I came in the morning, I saw numerous dead fish floating on the water. It is believed that the miscreants had poisoned the pond in a planned manner in the darkness of the night.

Thousands of fish of various species including Rui, Katla, and Tilapia died in this. He also said, "My family's livelihood is from this enclosure. Everything was gone in one night. I have lost about 2 million taka." After receiving the news of the incident, locals visited the enclosure. Many demanded that those involved in the incident be identified and brought to justice quickly.
In this regard, the Ramganj Upazila Fisheries Officer said, "The issue of fish dying due to poisoning is being viewed seriously. If a complaint is received, necessary action will be taken after investigation." Ramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Firoz Uddin Chowdhury said that they have not yet received a written complaint in this incident. If a complaint is received, legal action will be taken.
