A total of six candidates, including those from Jatiya Party, Islami Andolan and Bangladesh JSD, have lost their deposit in the 13th National Parliament election in Panchagarh-2 (Boda-Debiganj) constituency due to receiving less than one-eighth of the valid votes in the unofficial results of the Panchagarh-2 constituency.
According to the election rules, a candidate must receive at least one-eighth (1/8) of the total votes cast by the participating voters to secure the deposit. It can be seen that at least 39,394 votes were required to secure the deposit in Panchagarh-2 constituency. As a result, 6 out of the 8 candidates contesting in this constituency failed to fulfill the quota in the prescribed votes and lost their deposit.
The candidates who lost their deposit are: Islami Andolan Bangladesh nominee Md. Kamrul Hasan Pradhan (fan symbol), he received 4,391 votes; Jatiya Party nominee Md. Lutfar Rahman Ripon (plough symbol), received 2,152 votes; Communist Party of Bangladesh nominee Md. Ashraful Alam (sickle symbol), received 935 votes; Bangladesh JSD nominee Md. Emran Al Amin (motorcycle symbol), received 953 votes; Bangladesh Supreme Party nominee Md. Delwar Hossain (single star symbol), received 1,352 votes; and independent candidate Mahmud Hossain Sumon (horse symbol), received 1,854 votes.
After the counting of votes on Thursday (February 12) night, Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Kazi Md. Sayemuzzaman announced the unofficial results of Panchagarh-2 constituency from the Panchagarh Deputy Commissioner's office.
According to the announced results, in Panchagarh-2 constituency, out of a total of 133 centers, including postal votes, BNP nominated candidate Farhad Hossain Azad received 174,650 votes with the paddy sheaf symbol. His closest rival, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami nominated candidate Md. Shafiul Alam received 128,862 votes with the scale symbol.
It is worth noting that the total number of voters in Panchagarh-2 constituency was 417,529. A total of 315,149 valid votes were cast. 7,158 votes were canceled. The total number of votes cast was 322,307, which is 77.19 percent of the total voters.
