Nazrul University Correspondent:
The orientation of the first-year undergraduate (honors) freshmen of the 2024-25 academic year has been held at the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JAKQANIB). The event was held on Sunday (August 17) morning at the newly built TST building of the university.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, said to the freshmen, âYou have been admitted to the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University with your signature of merit, you have to use that merit and move forward. You have to acquire skills in all aspects and earn qualifications. No matter what subject you are admitted to, you have to have a signature of merit in that subject.â
He also said, âIf a student studies every class attentively from the beginning, then 50 percent of his studies will be done in class. And the remaining 50 percent has to be completed from the university library, departmental seminar library and other sources. If you fall behind in a semester, you will have to work hard to overcome it. So you have to do well from the beginning.â
Referring to hard work as the mother of good fortune, the Vice Chancellor said, âYou have to work hard, persevere and make yourself skilled. Many of our friends who used to live a very comfortable life are now in a deplorable state.
And those who have worked hard and studied are now in a much better position. There are many demands from your family, society and the state. I hope you will be able to fulfill those demands.â
Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam, Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University, spoke as the chief guest. He told the new students, âPrimary, secondary and higher secondary are your foundation. Only those who had a strong foundation have got the opportunity to get admission in this university.
However, many parents want their son to become a doctor, engineer, and last but not least, to teach a good subject in a university. In fact, all subjects are important. No matter what subject you study, you have to gain knowledge about that subject. It is not enough to study just to get a certificate.â
Taking the topic of higher education abroad, he said, âMany students go abroad on scholarships with very good GPA. They stay abroad permanently and do not have time to meet their parents. When their parents die, they just come and bury them. This should not happen. Even though their results are good, their certificates are flawed. Be knowledgeable but do not be ignorant.â
Referring to the role of students in the countryâs critical times, he said, âStudents have shown what they can do in the July 2024 mass uprising. They have played a strong role in establishing a new Bangladesh from a devastated Bangladesh. Therefore, you too have to develop yourself as a patriot who dedicates his life to the country.â
