3 arrested in DNC anti-drug operation in Chapainawabganj

Three people have been arrested with ganja in Gomostapur Upazila in a raid by the Narcotics Control Department, District Office Chapainawabganj. The raid was conducted in the Bogla Kathal area under Gomostapur Police Station of Chapainawabganj district at around 4 pm on Tuesday (February 4).

The arrested are – Sadequl Islam Fitu’s wife Mosa: Sulekha Begum (41), Sulekha Begum’s husband Sadequl Islam, Fitu (35), father Sultan Basfor and son Shri Sohel Basfor (36), all three are residents of Gomostapur Police Station. A total of 300 grams of ganja was recovered from them in the raid.

Out of this, 200 grams, 50 grams and 50 grams of ganja were seized separately. Later, Deputy Inspector of the Narcotics Control Department Mamunur Rashid filed a prosecution against the arrested accused. Assistant Commissioner (Land) and learned Executive Magistrate Mr. Umme Salma Ruma conducted the mobile court.

The court sentenced the first accused, Mosa: Sulekha Begum, to 3 (three) months of rigorous imprisonment. The second and third accused were sentenced to 1 (one) month and 25 (twenty-five) days of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 500 (five hundred) taka each. Narcotics Control Department sources said that the anti-drug campaign will continue.
