Human chain demanding Bhaluka-Gafargaon bridge

Gafargaon (Mymensingh) Correspondent:

A human chain was held on Thursday afternoon (August 14, 2025) at the initiative of the local people demanding the construction of a bridge on the Sutia River between Bhaluka and Gafargaon upazilas of Mymensingh. The human chain was participated by young students, common people and local public representatives.

Locals said that even after four decades of independence, the suffering of the residents of the two upazilas has not decreased. People are forced to use boats to cross the ferry ghats of Biruniya Bazar in Bhaluka upazila and Mukhi Shah Miskin Notun Bazar in Gafargaon. About 3,000 people cross these ghats every day, which puts their lives at risk.

Locals said that students and common people often face problems due to the risk of accidents while crossing the boat. Besides, due to the underdeveloped transportation system, farmers have trouble marketing their products and students are unable to go to advanced educational institutions.

At the end of the human chain, the attendees strongly demanded the construction of the Nabadiganta Bridge at Kheaghat in Biruniya Bazar and Shah Miskin Notun Bazar in Mukhi area. They expressed hope that the rapid construction of the bridge would significantly reduce the suffering of the people of the two upazilas.
