Two students have died mysteriously at Shefali Begum Mohila Hafizia Madrasa in Dobar More area of Radhanagar Union of Gomostapur Upazila of Chapainawabganj.
The deceased are Tania (12), daughter of Tariqul Islam of Lebudanga village of Radhanagar Union of the upazila, and Jamila (10), daughter of Saibur Rahman of Begpur village of the same union.
According to police and local sources, the residential students of the madrasa were sleeping on Friday night. When the two students fell ill around 1 am on Saturday, the madrasa teacher Sahida Khatun brought them to the Gomostapur Upazila Health Complex and the doctor on duty declared them dead.
Later, the police recovered the bodies and took them to the police station. The director of the madrasa, Ashraf Ali, said that on Friday night, 13 students of the madrasa fell asleep together. When two students fell ill in the early hours of the morning, the madrasa teacher took them to the hospital, where they died.
In this regard, Gomstapur Police Station (acting) OC Wadud Alam said that since the deaths of the students are mysterious, they have been taken to the police station for an autopsy, and legal action will be taken after an investigation.
