BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said that those who are expressing concerns about the elections are not the strength of democracy, but want to delay or thwart it.
Speaking as the chief guest at a Milad and Doa Mahfil organized by the Jubo Dal in Nayapaltan in the capital on Saturday (August 16) afternoon, he said, “They may be twisting the words for some reason or the other so that the elections are not held. But the people of Bangladesh are united, determined to establish democracy and voting rights.”
He also said that the people will stand against those who make anti-democratic statements. He called on political parties to remain united in the elections like the anti-fascist movement.
Salahuddin Ahmed said, “A country where there is a Khaleda Zia, that country will never lose its way. She has been a beacon of light for the people of the country by struggling for democracy all her life.”
Stressing the importance of national unity in building democracy, the top BNP leader said, “Anti-fascist national unity has been established, now it must be converted into strength.”
