A workers’ meeting was held at the initiative of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon. The workers’ meeting was organized at a designated place in Haripur upazila on Saturday.
The workers’ meeting was attended by Comrade Sajjad Zahir Chandan, the central president of the Communist Party of Bangladesh, as the chief guest. CPB Thakurgaon District General Secretary Advocate Abu Sayem, was present as the special guest. CPB’s nominated candidate for the National Parliament, Professor Shahabuddin Ahmed, also spoke at the workers’ meeting.
The speakers at the meeting discussed in detail the current political situation in the country, the crisis of democracy, the rise in commodity prices, the rights of working people and the organizational weakness at the local level. They said that at present, the voting rights, justice and fundamental rights of the common people are being seriously undermined.
Comrade Sajjad Zahir Chandan said in his speech,
“To strengthen the fight against exploitation and deprivation in the country, the grassroots level organization must be further strengthened. The ideological practice and movement-oriented role of the workers is the demand of the hour.”
District General Secretary Advocate Abu Sayem said,
“The workers must work unitedly to make the organizational activities of the Communist Party more dynamic in the entire Thakurgaon district including Haripur.”
National Parliament nominee Professor Shahabuddin Ahmed said,
“The workers of the CPB are the biggest force in establishing the rights of the working people and building alternative political forces. The workers must prepare for the future movement and electoral struggle.”
At the end of the meeting, the workers were called upon to work actively in the field to increase the party’s organizational strength, develop new workers, and make the future political programs successful.
