Four people from both sides, including a father and son, were killed in a clash between the former chairman of Singosholpur Union, Khair Group, and the Khalil Group over dominance in Narail Sadar Upazila. At least 6 to 7 people were seriously injured.
The clash took place at around 5:30 am on Monday (February 23) in Barukula village of the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narail Sadar Police Station, Oli Mia, confirmed the matter.
The deceased were Rahman Khalil of the Khalil Group of Barukula village of the upazila, his son Tahazzud Hossain, Ferdous Hossain of the same group, and Osibur Mia, former chairman of Khair Group.
According to police and local sources, there had been a long-standing dispute between the people of Khair and Khalil, former chairman of Singosholpur Union in Sadar Upazila. Due to this, a bloody clash broke out between the two parties in the Barukula area early on Monday. Rahman Khalil of the Khalil Group, his son Tahazzud Hossain and Ferdous Hossain of the same party died on the spot after being hit by a local weapon.
At that time, the seriously injured former chairman of the other party, Khair Group, Osibur, was rescued and taken to Narail District Hospital, where the emergency department doctor declared him dead.
Narail Sadar Police Station OC Oli Mia said that additional police have been deployed at the scene to maintain normalcy in the area. Legal action is under process in this incident.
