The police have arrested the president of the banned organization Mujib Sena Oikya League in Ashulia. He was arrested in a drive in Aukpara Adarsh Gram area of Ashulia at 8:30 pm on Sunday (March 1).
The arrested GM Jewel Mia (52) is the son of Md. Mansur Uddin Mia of Phulbari Police Station in Kurigram district and the president of the banned Awami League affiliate organization Mujib Sena Oikya League, Dhaka District North.
Police said that a special drive was conducted in Aukpara Adarsh Gram area under Ashulia Police Station at around 8:30 pm on the instructions of Dhaka District Police. GM Jewel Mia, the president of the Dhaka District North Mujib Sena Oikya League, who was hiding during the drive, was arrested. He is a resident of Aukpara Adarsh Gram area of Ashulia Police Station.
Police also said that there are 7 cases against the arrested GM Jewel Mia, including murder, rape, extortion, attempted murder, and fraud.
Confirming the arrest, SI Mahbub Ullah Sarkar, in-charge of Ashulia Bazar Police Camp, said, “GM Jewel Mia was arrested at night as part of our regular operation to bring criminals under the law, and legal action is being taken against him.”
