One person was killed and four others were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in Kaliganj, Gazipur. The injured were taken to Kaliganj Government Hospital for primary treatment. The condition of two of them was critical and they were transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
The accident occurred at around 6:30 am on Wednesday in the Baligaon Morol Bari area of the Kaliganj Bypass Road. The deceased has been identified as Nur Alam (32). He is a resident of Dutamrunpur area of Chinir Bandar police station in Dinajpur. He was working in a garment factory in Gazipur.
The injured are: Rabin (35) of Dewanganj, Rashed Rana (24) of Madhupur in Tangail, Farhad (19) of Sirajganj and Main Uddin (30) of Raipur in Narsingdi.
According to police and local sources, a passenger CNG-powered autorickshaw was heading towards Narsingdi on the Kaliganj bypass road early Wednesday. When it reached the Baligaon Moralbari area, the driver overtook another vehicle and went into the opposite lane. At that time, it collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction. At that time, a covered van of Pran Fruito behind the truck was also damaged in the accident. The CNG passenger, Nur Alam, died on the spot in the collision. The injured driver and others were rescued by locals and taken to the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex.
Kaliganj Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Maksudul Kabir Nakib confirmed the accident and said, “One person died on the spot. The injured are undergoing treatment. The body of the deceased Nur Alam has been handed over to his family, legal action will be taken in this regard.”
