Dhaka Correspondent:
After the elected government took office, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen and two commissioners have resigned in a series of resignations and transfers. However, the ACC Chairman said that he resigned not under any pressure; rather, he resigned to cooperate with the elected government in fulfilling its expectations.
He made these comments in response to questions from journalists after submitting his resignation on Tuesday (March 3). On that day, two more commissioners along with the ACC Chairman submitted their resignations to the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat. They are Mian Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi and Brigadier General (Retd.) Hafiz Ahsan Farid.
The newly-outgoing Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen said, ‘The new government has expectations.
We resigned as collaborators to fulfill those expectations. We resigned on the 14th day of the elected government’s arrival. There is no special reason behind this.’ Explaining his resignation, he further said, ‘The government that came after the change also has its own expectations. The government will definitely form a more competent commission than us. I believe that the ACC will benefit from this as well as the state.’
In response to a question about whether the ACC had ‘tooth and nail’ or not, he said, ‘You are the one to judge this. You will understand better whether there was tooth and nail during our time. We have tried to fulfill our responsibilities in our time.’
It is worth noting that Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen was appointed as the ACC Chairman on December 10, 2024 for a five-year term. Before that, he was the Secretary of the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the interim government. At the same time, the appointed Commissioners Mian Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi took office on December 11 and Hafiz Ahsan Farid on December 15.
