Grandmother hacked to death in Phulpur, grandson arrested

Phulpur (Mymensingh) Correspondent:

A grandson brutally hacked his grandmother to death in Phulpur upazila of Mymensingh. The incident took place on Wednesday, 29-4-2026, at around 9 pm in Jatia village of Rambhadrapur union of the upazila.

The deceased Ayesha Akhter (78) lived in the same house with her grandson Jasim Uddin (28). Locals allege that Jasim had been a drug addict and a scoundrel for a long time.

It is learned that after Jasim’s father died, his mother married elsewhere and moved away. Although the family owned some land, she handed it over to her sisters instead of giving it to her drug-addicted son. There had been a dispute between the grandmother and grandson over this land for a long time.

On the night of the incident, the grandmother and grandson had an argument over the same issue. At one point, Jasim got angry and stabbed Ayesha Akhter repeatedly with a knife kept in the courtyard of the house, seriously injuring her. She died on the spot.

Immediately after the incident, angry locals arrested Jasim and handed him over to the police. Upon receiving the news, the police went to the spot and recovered the body and took the accused into custody.

Phulpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Rashedul Hasan said, “The person involved in the incident has been arrested. The body has been recovered and sent for autopsy. Legal action is under process in this regard.”
