Child dies after injection in Noakhali

Relatives have alleged that a six-month-old baby named Arohi died due to an injection and the negligence of a nurse at the Begumganj Upazila Health Complex in Noakhali. The incident took place at Begumganj Upazila Health Complex on Tuesday (February 24) at around 11:30 am. The deceased Arohi is the daughter of Zahir Uddin of Nazirpur area of ​​Ward No. 2 of Chaumuhani Municipality in the upazila.

According to local sources, mother Salma Akhter brought the baby Arohi to the hospital with pneumonia from Nazirpur area of ​​Ward No. 2 of Chaumuhani Municipality in the upazila in the morning. Relatives claim that the baby’s physical condition deteriorated due to the negligence of the emergency department nurse. At one stage, the child died at around 11:30 am.

When the news of the death spread, a tense situation arose when angry relatives came to the hospital. Later, the in-charge of Chaumuhani Police Outpost Abdur Razzak visited the scene to control the situation.

The in-charge of Chaumuhani Police Outpost Abdur Razzak said that the child was suffering from pneumonia. On Tuesday morning, his mother brought the child to the hospital in critical condition. Before bringing the child to the hospital, he was treated at home. The child was kept at home for 3-4 days and 3-4 injections were pushed into his body. When the child’s body did not permit any more injections at home, he was brought to the hospital with a cannula in his hand. Before the doctor saw the child, the nurse went to clean the cannula and the child died. However, the child’s relatives complained verbally and the child died due to the nurse’s negligence.

In this regard, the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Begumganj Upazila Health Complex Dr. Saleh Ahmed Sohel said that a few days ago, Pediatric Consultant Dr. Rafiqul Islam treated Arohi for fever. He asked the child to be given an injection and to remain hospitalized. The relatives did not admit the child to the hospital, they gave him an injection outside and brought him back to the hospital today. Then the cannula buckle was found in the child’s hand. The patient died while cleaning the cannula. The family of the deceased child alleged that the child died due to the injection.
