Clashes between BNP and Jamaat in Jibannagar Hasadah

A clash took place between BNP and Jamaat leaders and activists after Iftar on Saturday in Jibannagar, Chuadanga. During the clash, it is alleged that the brother of a Jamaat union ameer, the owner of Dhaka Jewelers, Hafizur Rahman, was hacked to death. The injured 5 Hafizurs died in a hospital in Dhaka after being taken from Jessore to Dhaka.

The union ameer injured in the clash is also admitted to the hospital’s ICU in a serious condition. His condition is also reported to be critical. Jamaat’s protest procession will be held at 10:30 am today

The injured are Banka Union Jamaat Ameer Mofizur Rahman (40), Jamaat activists Khairul Islam (50) and Mahfuz (25). Also, Hasadah Union Volunteer Party convener Mehedi Hasan (35) and his father Jasim Uddin (60). The injured have been rescued and admitted to the Upazila Health Complex. Among them, Jamaat Ameer Mofizur Rahman and his brother Hafizur Rahman were in critical condition and were sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital by the doctor on duty.

It is learnt that Mehedi Hasan, convener of Hasadah Union Volunteer Party, went to Sutia village of the upazila on February 13, a day after the elections. Jamaat activists Sohag and Hafiz along with villagers of that village attacked him and left him with bloody wounds. Police reached the spot and rescued the injured volunteer party convener Mehedi Hasan and admitted him to the Upazila Health Complex.

Following this incident, on Saturday evening, Jamaat Ameer Mofizur Rahman and his brother Hafizur Rahman along with Jamaat activists Khairul and Mahfuz of Banka Union of Sutia village were coming to Jamaat office in Hasadah Bazar on a motorcycle when they reached Kamil Madrasa when Mehedi Hasan, convener of Volunteer Party, attacked them. During this, six people were injured in the clash between the two sides. The incident created extreme tension between the leaders and activists of both parties. The police reached the spot and tried to bring the situation under control.

Jibannagar Upazila BNP President Anwar Hossain Khan said, Jamaat is responsible for this incident. Since the election, Jamaat started unnecessary fights with BNP leaders and activists. They brutally beat up our volunteer leader and handed him over to the police in an injured condition. Today’s clash is due to that incident. Jamaat people from different unions are gathering and attacking BNP leaders and activists.

In this regard, Upazila Jamaat Amir Maulana Sajedur Rahman said, innocent leaders and activists of Jamaat were attacked with domestic weapons. When local leaders asked about the attack on innocent activists, they injured four of our leaders and activists with blood. We protest this incident.

Jibannagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Solaiman Sheikh said that today’s clash started after the beating of Swechchhasebak Dal leader Mehedi Hasan. Police and army are working at the scene to bring the situation under control.
