A fish farmer in Comilla has suffered a loss of about seven lakh taka due to the use of poison by miscreants. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday (September 6) in the Araiora Madhyapara area of Adarsh Sadar Upazila.
The affected fish farmer Md. Tutul said that he came to the pond after receiving information from locals in the morning. When he arrived, he saw a lot of fish floating in the pond and a strong smell of pesticides spreading around. He was shocked.
He also said that he had leased the pond for four and a half lakh taka for three years. In addition to various species of fish including Rui, Katal, Mrigel, Tilapia, Curfew, he has spent about five lakh taka on fish fry and food. Now, as all the fish in the pond have died, he has faced a major financial loss.

Tutul Mia complained that some people vandalized the CCTV camera installed for security near the pond on August 25. He filed a complaint with the Kotwali Model Police Station in this incident. He believes that the same party committed the poisoning incident out of revenge.
Locals have expressed anger after the incident. They said that such a heinous incident is not only harming a fish farmer, but also the people of the entire area.
Fish farmer Tutul Mia has demanded a speedy investigation and arrest and punishment of the culprits from the administration.
In this regard, OC of Kotwali Model Police Station Mohinul Islam said that the fish farmer has filed a general diary with Kotwali Police Station in this incident. The police have inspected the scene and necessary action will be taken in this regard.
