A total of 16 kilometers of canal excavation and two box culverts have been inaugurated in Fatikchhari, Chittagong. Sarwar Alamgir, the MP who won the Chittagong-2 (Fatikchhari) constituency, inaugurated these projects through separate programs on Friday (March 27).
During the inauguration, Sarwar Alamgir said that the canal excavation program was a groundbreaking step of the late President Ziaur Rahman, which played an important role in the development of agriculture and environment. In continuation of that, Tarique Rahman has started the canal excavation program again across the country after becoming the Prime Minister. The work to start that program was inaugurated in Fatikchhari today as well.
Sarwar Alamgir also said, cooperate with Tarique Rahman’s government. Fatikchhari will be developed as a prosperous Fatikchhari upazila, not Singapore.
The inaugurated projects include – Fatikchhari Canal (10 kilometers) in Nanupur Union, Moragzaria and Tarako Canals in Dantmara Union (total 4 kilometers), Baromasia Canal (2 kilometers) in Bhujpur Union. In addition, the construction work of two box culverts on Sonar Khil Road adjacent to East Hasnabad Gangerkul Bridge was also inaugurated. According to relevant sources, the cost of implementing these projects has been estimated at more than 1 crore taka.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Fatikchhari Upazila Executive Officer Sayeed Mohammad Ibrahim, Chittagong North District Krishak Dal Member Secretary Nazim Uddin Shaheen, BADC Executive Engineer Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, Assistant Engineer Tamal Das, Deputy Assistant Engineer Dipan Chakma, Shahjahan Chowdhury Chiffon Chairman, Touhidul Alam Member, Md. Saifuddin, Ekramul Haque, Md. Hanzala, Mozaharul Iqbal Lavlu, Mohin Uddin, Messi and other local BNP leaders and locals were present.
Regarding the canal excavation program in Fatikchhari Upazila, SM Ziaur Rahman, founder and environmental organizer of Chittagong’s environment, climate, agriculture and service organization Green Chittagong Alliance, said, “We welcome the mine excavation program, but we have to ensure that the project work is being done properly.”
We must focus on the development of farmers and agriculture so that it plays a role in achieving the success of the project. He also said that if the project work is completed in six stages and hinders agricultural development, we will have to answer for it and pay a heavy price.
