Jhenaidah Detective Branch (DB) rescues youth trafficked by international crime syndicate

An organized international human trafficking gang smuggles Bangladeshi citizens abroad through false enticements and deception. Similarly, the victim Jewel Mia (25), father- Md. Babul Biswas, resident of Kanchannagar, Thana- Jhenaidah Sadar, District- Jhenaidah, was introduced to a Bangladeshi agent of a trafficking gang. He was first lured with lucrative jobs in Thailand and later in Europe.

A deal was made with a local agent for seven lakh taka. Taking advantage of the simplicity of the victim’s family, he was smuggled to Cambodia via Shahjalal International Airport on 09/04/2025. When the victim Jewel Mia reached the Cambodian airport, the members of the trafficking gang received him and detained him at a place called O’SMACH in SAMARONG MUNICIPALITY, a border town between Cambodia and Thailand. From there, they forced her to perform various types of immoral labor without pay.

They continued to torture the victim physically and mentally indescribably. When the victim Jewel told her family about the torture, the victim’s sister Ruma Khatun contacted local agents. They became angry and increased the level of torture on the victim and stopped her communication with her family.

The victim came to know that the agents in Bangladesh had sold her to a Cambodian company. After the recent war between Thailand and Cambodia broke out, Victim Jewel Mia got an opportunity to escape from the prison and was able to escape from there and go to Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. There, she was staying without food and shelter.

When the victim Jewel Mia told her family about the matter, the victim’s sister, Ms. Ruma Khatun, filed a case in the learned court under Sections 6/7/8/9 of the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act, 2012. The learned court assigned the investigation of the case to the District Detective Branch (DB), Jhenaidah. SI (Retd) Golam Morshed of the District Detective Branch was appointed as the investigating officer of the case.

Superintendent of Police Mr. Md. Mahfuz Afzal, upon being informed of the incident, immediately directed a smart team of the District Detective Branch led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Sheikh Bilal Hossain to take necessary measures to rescue the victim from Cambodia. Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Sheikh Billal Hossain and Officer-in-Charge (DB) Md. Abdul Hashem continued round-the-clock supervision.

At one stage, it was possible to identify the location of the victim in Cambodia on 23/12/2025. Later, the victim was rescued by maintaining uninterrupted communication with Interpol and Cambodia Police through the National Central Bureau (NBC) branch of Bangladesh Police.

The rescued victim Jewel Mia was sent to Shahjalal International Airport by the Cambodian police on Thai Airlines flight TG585 on 19/01/2026, and a team from the District Detective Branch (DB), Jhenaidah rescued her from the airport and brought her to Jhenaidah.

Today, on 20/01/2026, the victim Jewel Mia gave a statement in the learned court describing the horrific torture. The process of identifying the members associated with this international trafficking ring and taking legal action is ongoing.
