A huge quantity of dyed and unapproved semai has been seized in a joint operation by the RAB District Safe Food Authority and the mobile court at two semai factories located in Kutipara area of Gaibandha Sadar Municipality. At that time, fines and imprisonment were imposed on the directors of the two establishments.
The operation conducted on Saturday (February 28) afternoon was led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Sabbir Ahmed. During the operation, about 2000 kg of dyed and unapproved packaged semai was seized from the Bismillah Lachcha semai factory, with an estimated market value of about 240,000,240,000 taka. In addition, 100 kg of open semai (worth about 12,000 taka) and 3 kg of artificial flavors and colors (worth about 1500,000 taka) were recovered.

The factory director, Sujan Mia, was fined 2 lakh taka for this crime. He was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment for non-payment of the fine. On the other hand, about 80 kg of dyed semai was seized from the Noorani Foot factory, whose estimated market value is about 90 thousand taka. In this incident, the factory director Rubel Mia was fined 50 thousand taka. He was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment for non-payment of the fine.

The joint operation was attended by RAB-13 DAD Jihad Hasan, SSI Raihan District Safe Food Authority officer Milan Mia and members of the concerned law enforcement agencies. Those involved in the operation said that such operations will continue to ensure safe food for consumers in the Kutipara area of Gaibandha Sadar Municipality. Strict legal action will be taken against those who use adulterated food and unauthorized ingredients.
