The name of the jail has been changed to Correction Service Bangladesh.

The name of Bangladesh Jail has been officially changed to “Correction Service Bangladesh” with the aim of modernizing the country’s prison system and raising international standards. The new name will be “Correction Service Bangladesh”.

A notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh stated that the new name will reflect the commitment to develop the prison system not only as a place of punishment, but also as a center for correction, rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners into society.

The notification further said that all prisons in the country will be gradually equipped with modern facilities, training programs, psychological support and increased employment opportunities for prisoners. The main goal of this initiative is to create “opportunities for correction and development” rather than punishment inside the prison.

An official of the Directorate General of Prisons said,

In many countries of the world, the word prison is being used instead of correctional service. This naming has been followed in Bangladesh as well.

It is learnt that the work of changing the signboards and documents with the new name has already begun.
