1 dead, 3 arrested in clash between two BNP groups in Meherpur

A farmer named Mofez Ali was killed in Meherpur after being caught in a scuffle between supporters of both sides of BNP. The deceased, Mofez Ali, is the son of Jamal Ali of Vitapara area of ​​Kaligangni village in Meherpur Sadar upazila. The incident took place at a place called Ghonarmor in Kaligangni village on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at around 9 pm. Police detained three people for questioning,

Locals said that at a tea shop, an argument broke out between former Meherpur-1 MP and national executive committee member Masud Arun’s leader UP member Kashem Ali and Meherpur Convening Committee member secretary Kamrul’s worker Sabdar Ali. At one point, they started punching and kicking. At that time, Masud Arun’s worker Mofez Ali was found in front of him and Kamrul’s worker Sabdar Ali kicked him in the chest, causing him to fall to the ground. Later, he was rescued and taken to Meherpur 250-bed General Hospital, where the doctor declared him dead. A team from Meherpur Police Station, DB Police and Rapid Action Battalion RAB visited the scene. At that time, the police detained three people for questioning. The arrested persons were Jinarul Islam, son of Shukur Ali, a returnee, Sabdar Ali and his son Hasanuzzaman.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, an autopsy has been ordered, said the officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, and additional police have been deployed in the area.
