10 killed, including gunman, in shooting in British Columbia, Canada

Police say 10 people, including the suspected gunman, have been found dead after a shooting in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Reuters reports that the incident took place in the northeastern town of Tumbler Ridge on Tuesday (February 10). News IBNNews

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said six people were found dead inside a high school in Tumbler Ridge. Two more people were found dead in a house. The other died on the way to the hospital.

Police say a suspected shooter was also found dead. He likely died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police say no one else is involved in the incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Tumbler Ridge, a remote town in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in northeastern British Columbia, has a population of about 2,400. The town is about 1,155 kilometers northeast of Vancouver.

Police say 25 other people were injured in the incident. They are being treated at a local medical centre.

British Columbia Public Safety Minister Nina Krieger said in a statement on X, “Our thoughts are with the people of Tumbler Ridge. I have spoken to the town’s mayor and local MLA and have offered all possible assistance.”
