On Thursday (September 4) evening, a raid was conducted in the Tekpara area of Moktarpur Union of the upazila and they were arrested. The two arrested are – Ariful Islam (35), son of Ali Newaz of Tekpara area of Moktarpur Union, and his associate Arif Sheikh (32), son of the deceased Shamsuddin Sheikh of the same area.
Police said that on Thursday evening, based on confidential information, news came that some drug dealers were preparing to sell Yaba in the Tekpara area. At that time, a police team led by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station, Md. Alauddin, conducted a raid there. When the two tried to escape after sensing the presence of the police, they were chased and arrested. Later, during the search, 3,800 pieces of Yaba were recovered from the bag hanging on Ariful Islam’s shoulder. Later, during interrogation, both of them admitted that they have been running the Yaba business in Kaliganj and surrounding areas for a long time.
Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Alauddin said that a case has been filed against the two arrested drug dealers under the Narcotics Control Act. Preparations are underway to send them to jail through the court.
