Gaibandha Correspondent:
Journalists have become angry over the misbehavior and indecent behavior of Adv. Gautam Kumar Chakraborty Bishu while collecting information about bail fraud at the Gaibandha court. In protest of this incident, a protest meeting was held at the Gaibandha Press Club on Tuesday afternoon at its own auditorium.
The accused Advocate Bishu was given a 72-hour ultimatum to apologize unconditionally from the protest meeting. The Gaibandha Bar Association was called upon to take disciplinary action against him in this regard. Otherwise, a larger program will be announced against Gautam Kumar Chakraborty Bishu.
Speakers at the protest meeting said that DBC News’ Gaibandha District Correspondent Riktu Prasad went to the Gaibandha court on Monday to collect information about bail fraud. When she went to the second floor of the Gaibandha Bar Building to take the lawyer’s statement, lawyer Gautam Kumar Chakraborty misbehaved and behaved indecently. The speakers also said that behaving indecently towards a well-known female leader and journalist of Gaibandha while performing her professional duties is highly condemnable.
This is not only against Riktu Prasad, but it is an attempt to undermine the freedom of journalism and the dignity of women journalists in general. Journalists have the right to be protected from all kinds of harassment while performing their professional duties.
General Secretary Idrisuzzaman Mona, Vice President Shafiul Islam, Joint Secretary Javed Hossain and Milan Khandaker, along with members of the Press Club, journalists and media workers, spoke at the protest meeting chaired by Gaibandha Press Club Vice President Reza Unnabi Raju.
Expressing anger over the fact that the accused lawyer Bishu has not expressed regret for his inappropriate behavior even after 24 hours of the incident, the speakers demanded immediate redressal of the incident from the District Bar. They also sought the cooperation of the majority of lawyers in this regard.
