Video circulating online shows hundreds of protesters gathering in Washington and smaller cities like Asheville, North Carolina. At the time, the protesters circled major cities and chanted “No ICE, No KKK, No Fascist USA.”

The Trump administration says it has a mandate from voters to deport millions of immigrants living in the country illegally. Recent polls show that a majority of Americans oppose the use of force by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal agents.

Students at Cleveland University in Ohio began a protest with the slogan “No Hate, No Fear, Refugees Are Welcome Here.” At the same time, students at a high school in Santa Fe, New Mexico, walked out of class to join a “Stop ICE Terror” rally at the state capitol.

The demonstrations were organized by left-wing organizations such as Indivisible and 50501, as well as labor unions and grassroots organizations. These organizations oppose immigration detention centers.
