At least 10 to 13 people, including women, were injured in an organized armed attack over a previous dispute in Fulchhari upazila of Gaibandha. The condition of a seriously injured old man is said to be critical.
The attack took place on the afternoon of March 19 in Kholabari village of the upazila. According to the complaint, an armed group of about 75-80 people armed with country-made weapons attacked the home of Md. Farhad Hossain. At that time, the tin fence, doors and windows of the house were vandalized. It is claimed that about 5 lakh taka was damaged in this.
When he tried to stop the attack, Farhad’s father Jamal Badsha was seriously injured by being hacked with a sharp weapon. In addition, other family members were also attacked.
The victim’s family alleged that the attackers entered the house and looted a huge amount of goods, including about 15 bhari of gold ornaments and 2.5 lakh taka in cash.
The injured were rescued and admitted to Gaibandha General Hospital and later to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Jamal Badsha is said to be fighting for his life there.
The victim, Farhad Hossain, has filed a written complaint with the Fulchhari Police Station, naming 51 people and accusing 26-30 unknown people.
Meanwhile, panic and anger prevail in the area as the main accused have not been arrested despite the complaint.
Locals have demanded that the accused be brought to justice immediately.
