A gas cylinder exploded in Adampur village of Jambaria Union No. 4 of Bholahat Upazila of Chapainawabganj on Tuesday (12 May 2026) at around 2 pm, causing a fire and completely burning all the daily necessities of 4 rooms of the house.
It has been reported through the owner of the house and eyewitnesses that Julekha Begum closed the gate of the house after finishing cooking at 2 pm and took the food to the bank. Upon returning home, Julekha Begum found that all the daily necessities inside the house, including the daily necessities, were completely burnt to ashes in 4 rooms of the house. Upon hearing Julekha’s screams, the people of the house and the neighbors immediately tried to extinguish the fire. Later, when the Bholahat Fire Service was informed, their members were able to extinguish the fire. However, by then, 4 houses had completely burnt down.

In this regard, the concerned ward member Md. Abdus Sabur admitted the incident of the fire and said that Julekha Begum, who lives on private land, is somehow managing her family with her sons. Julekha locked herself in the house around noon today and went to give food to the poor. In the meantime, the fire broke out and all the belongings of 4 houses, including other things, were burnt down. The damage to which was estimated at around 6.5 lakh taka, according to sources from Julekha’s family.
In this regard, the duty officer of the Bholahat Fire Service, Krishna Basak Talapatra, said, “One of my teams quickly went to the spot and brought the fire under control. Later, we were able to recover a box inside the house and hand over 90 thousand taka in cash to Julekha’s family.” He further said that after finishing cooking on the stove, as no one was home, a leaf nearby caught fire and a gas cylinder caught fire. The cylinder exploded instantly with a loud noise and the flames completely destroyed all the belongings in the four houses, he said.
