Dumuria is an important agricultural upazila in the southwestern region of Bangladesh. This season, the cultivation of Boro rice has started on a large scale. Farmers have started Boro rice cultivation in full swing, which is working as their main source of livelihood.

This year, Boro rice has been cultivated on about 21,800 hectares of land in the district. According to officials of the district’s agriculture department, good yields are expected from this cultivation if the weather is favorable. Farmers in Khulna district have become interested in Boro rice cultivation for the last few years. They are now using modern technology in cultivation, including the use of high-quality seeds, irrigation systems and safe pesticides. As a result, farmers are getting good yields and their income is also increasing.

Farmer Md. Abul Gani Gazi said that the amount of Boro rice cultivation is increasing due to various incentives from the government, especially subsidized fertilizers and pesticides and cooperation in providing water for irrigation. However, some problems still remain for them, such as the renovation of canals and beels for irrigation and the low price in the market.

Khulna district’s Agriculture Department Deputy Director Md. Nazrul Islam said that agriculture in Khulna district is improving due to the increase in Boro paddy cultivation. They hope that this year’s Boro paddy will yield a good yield and farmers will benefit. They also said that the district’s farmers will continue to be supported and they will always encourage them to use modern agricultural technology.

Dumuria Upazila Agriculture Officer Krishibid Md. Nazmul Huda said that we are providing regular training to farmers so that they follow modern agricultural methods. In addition, the Agriculture Department is also providing advice for proper crop care.

If the price of paddy is right in the market, farmers will be able to make good profits. The prospects for Boro paddy cultivation this year are very bright, and this can be a big opportunity for Dumuria farmers.

About 450,000 people live in 14 unions of Dumuria upazila of Khulna. A significant number of them depend on agriculture. According to district data, about 70%-80% of the people are involved in agriculture, that is, about 3.5 lakh people are indirectly related to agriculture. Many of them mainly cultivate paddy, shrimp, sesame, wheat, mustard, vegetables and fruits.
