Two people were killed in a truck and motorcycle collision on their way to a relative’s house in Khetlal, Joypurhat. Another person was injured in the incident. The accident occurred on Monday afternoon in the Kharikata area of the Nishchinta to Chanpara regional road of the upazila.
The deceased were Emon Sarkar (30), son of Tajul Islam Khandaker of Sarail village in Kalai upazila, and his brother-in-law Ferdous Hossain (12), son of Shamsul Islam of Harunja village. Emon’s wife Suraiya (19) was injured.
According to police and local sources, Emon Sarkar, his wife and brother-in-law set off on a motorcycle to go to a relative’s house on the occasion of Eid. When the motorcycle reached Kharikata area on the way, the wheels skidded on the straw spread on the road. As a result, the motorcycle lost control and collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction, killing the motorcycle rider Emon Sarkar on the spot. Ferdous, who was seriously injured, was taken to the hospital where he died while undergoing treatment. Injured Emon’s wife is undergoing treatment at Kalai Upazila Health Complex.
According to locals, during the paddy harvesting season, straw and paddy are spread on the road at various places on this regional road to dry. The motorcycle lost control due to the straw spread on the road and met with an accident.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khetlal Police Station Moktadul Islam said that straw was spread on the road. The motorcycle skidded and collided with a truck. One person was killed on the spot. Another died after being taken to the hospital.
