Youth dies in mob lynching on suspicion of cow theft in Bholahat

A man named Firoz Ali (40) was killed in a mob lynching while trying to steal a cow in Bholahat, Chapainawabganj. The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday (June 2, 2026) in Gohalbari village of Gohalbari union of the upazila.

The deceased Firoz Ali is the son of the deceased Nur Nabi of PTI College slum area of ​​Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station. He had been living in his in-laws’ house in Gohalbari village of Bholahat upazila for the past 5 years.

According to police and local sources, a group of thieves tried to steal a cow from the cowshed of Md. Emran Hossain (57), a resident of Gohalbari village, at around 3 am. At that time, the people of the house started shouting and arrested Firoz Ali red-handed on suspicion of being a thief. The locals, agitated by everyone’s screams, rushed to the spot and beat up the detained Firoz Ali without knowing the real incident. He was seriously injured and bleeding.

At that time, when the injured person’s physical condition deteriorated, he was quickly taken to the Bholahat Upazila Health Complex for treatment. While undergoing treatment there, the doctor on duty declared him dead at 7:15 am.

Upon receiving the information, the Bholahat police station recovered the body of the deceased from the hospital and arranged to send it to the morgue for autopsy. The police station is preparing a case in this incident and the police have started an investigation to identify those involved in the incident.
