Jalal Ahmed Jalal, an independent VP candidate in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections, has been arrested. A case of attempt to murder has been filed against him. This information was confirmed by Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Mansur.
OC Khalid Mansur said that the accused Jalal has been shown arrested and sent to court.
According to initial information, Jalal Ahmed stabbed his roommate Rabiul Haque in room number 462 of Haji Muhammad Muhsin Hall at around 12:30 am on Tuesday (August 26). The injured Rabiul Haque is a student of the Political Science Department of the 2018-19 session.
The same night after the incident, the hall principal Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam announced the expulsion of Jalal from the hall. The accused Jalal is a student of the Television and Film Department of Haji Muhammad Muhsin Hall and an independent VP candidate in the upcoming DUCSU elections.
OC Khalid Mansur also said, “The police took Jalal, the accused, into custody with the cooperation of the hall and university administration in the incident of stabbing his roommate. The university administration filed a case that night. Later, he was sent to court with a request for remand.”
Tension is prevailing in the university and the student community over the incident.
