Narail Correspondent:
Now, the fields of Narail are covered in white. Rows of cauliflower are adorning the crop fields of the district during this winter. Due to the favorable weather, there has been a bumper harvest of cauliflower this time. In addition to the good harvest, the farmers of the district are also happy to get a reasonable price in the market.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension, cauliflower has been cultivated on 227 hectares of land across Narail district this season, which is 100% of the target. Large quantities of cauliflower have been cultivated commercially in all three upazilas of the district – Sadar Upazila, Lohagara and Kalia.
Visiting various fields on the spot, it can be seen that farmers are busy collecting cauliflower from the fields and marketing it as soon as the dawn breaks. This time, the cultivation of Snowbox and hybrid varieties of cauliflower has increased. Since the size and quality of each cauliflower are good, there is a huge demand for it in the wholesale market as well.
Sadar Upazila farmer Md. Ashrafuzzaman said, by the grace of God, the yield has been very good this time. Due to timely irrigation and fertilizer, no major diseases and pests have attacked this time. The cost has also been comparatively low. If this market price is maintained in the end, the farmers will see a big profit.
The Deputy Director of the District Agricultural Extension Department said that regular advice and technical assistance have been given to the farmers at the field level. Due to favorable weather conditions and the use of improved seeds, cauliflower cultivation in Narail has now become quite profitable. Many educated youth are also now interested in vegetable cultivation.
