Raipura (Narsingdi) Correspondent:

The entire Raipura has become agitated over the proposal to merge six unions of Raipura in Narsingdi with Belab and Shibpur upazilas.

Today, Thursday (August 28), from 5 pm to 6 pm, several hundred people participated in human chains, demonstrations and protest rallies on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in the Morjal bus stand area of the upazila. The protesters made the highway rumble with various slogans, “We will not let Raipura be divided, we will not let the seats be divided.”

The speakers said that the unions that have been proposed to be merged with Shibpur and Belab are much further away than Raipura. Raipura, which is proud of its history, tradition and distinguished personalities, will not be allowed to be divided again. Belab upazila was formed in 1983 by cutting unions from Raipura and Monohardi. This time too, there is a conspiracy to break the historical integrity of Raipura, which will not be accepted in any way. They warned that if even one union from Raipura is taken elsewhere, strict programs including blocking the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, railway and waterway will be announced.

BNP’s Central Science and Technology Affairs Co-Secretary Engineer Ashraf Uddin Bakul spoke virtually on this issue, “Not a single union from Raipura will be allowed to move here and there. We will not give up even an inch of land. He also called on everyone to be united against the evil-minded circles.”

Upazila BNP’s Joint Organizing Secretary Awal Pradhan, Morjar Union BNP former president Tariqul Islam Shukkur, Union Acting President Md. Faruk Ahmed Pradhan and General Secretary Md. Humayun Kabir, Upazila Matsdal President Firuz Al Mujahid,

In the hearing of the Election Commission, a resident of Belab, Ilias Uddin, proposed to merge Raipura’s Musapur, Mirzapur, Belabo and Radhanagar, Uttar Bakharnagar, Dokarchar and Morjal unions with Shibpur.

As soon as that statement spread on social media, people from all walks of life in Raipura erupted in anger.
