Three people have been arrested in a joint force operation at a coaching center in Kadirganj, Rajshahi city. Weapons, bullets and various bomb-making equipment were recovered during this time. Divers have also entered a nearby pond to search for weapons.
At the time of writing this report at 3 pm on Saturday, two divers were searching.
The joint force started the operation at ‘Doctor English’ coaching in Kadirganj area. The army members surrounded the building from 9:30 am on Saturday by blocking the road in Kadirganj. A notification signed by the commander of the Rajshahi army camp after noon said that a team of the army’s 40 East Bengal (Mechanized) started the operation at 1:30 am on Friday following a month-long intelligence surveillance.
The owner of Dr. English Coaching, Montazebul Alam (Anindya), has been arrested. The other two arrested are Md. Robin and Md. Faisal.
Montasebul is the son of former Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP vice-president Shafiul Alam (Lattu). The coaching center is located on the ground floor of their house. They are relatives of former Rajshahi City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton. Earlier, Montazebul Alam was arrested as a suspected accused in the murder case of Rajshahi University English Department teacher Rezaul Karim. He was later acquitted from the case.
The press release said that three firearms and bullets, military-grade binoculars and sniper scope, six domestic weapons, seven foreign sharp daggers, five high-quality walkie-talkie sets, a military-grade GPS, a taser gun, various domestic and foreign cartridges, a large number of unused SIM cards, explosive bomb-making equipment, six computer sets, 7,445 taka, various domestic and foreign liquor and 11 nitrogen cartridges were recovered in the operation. These were fresh. Later, the bomb disposal unit deactivated them.
Meanwhile, during the raid in the afternoon, Nasrin Begum, the mother of detained Robin, came and started crying. She claimed that her son did not know anything. A month ago, he (Robin) started cleaning houses here.
