A barbaric terrorist attack has been carried out on senior journalist Khorshed Alam, the Sherpur correspondent of Dainik Bhorer Kagoj and the Jhenaigati Upazila correspondent of Dainik Ittefaq. He is currently undergoing treatment at Sherpur District Sadar Hospital in critical condition.
His younger brother Humayun Khan said that on the night of August 15, while returning home from Samashchura after performing his professional duties, he was attacked by drug dealers and terrorists who had been waiting in ambush. When he was seriously injured in the attack and fell on the road, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhenaigati Police Station along with the police went to the spot and rescued him and admitted him to Jhenaigati Hospital. Later, when his condition deteriorated, he was sent to Sherpur District Sadar Hospital.
The family alleged that a drug smuggling gang from the Gomra area had been threatening to kill him since before. They believe that this barbaric attack may have occurred as a result of the continuous publication of news against the gang.
Humayun Khan also said that although his brother is currently undergoing treatment, the situation is alarming as his condition has deteriorated. He urged the administration to quickly arrest the attackers and ensure exemplary punishment and justice.
The Bangladesh Independent Reporters Council (BiRC) strongly condemned and protested this brutal attack and demanded that the culprits be brought to justice immediately.
