In Kalai, Joypurhat, a young man named Mejbahul Islam (35) was cut off by his housemaid. The incident took place at around 7 pm on Friday, August 29, in Punat Purbapara village of Punat Union of the upazila. The young man Mejbahul Islam is the son of Alhaj Aftab Hossain Mandal of Punat Purbapara village. His family members admitted him to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in his injured condition. The woman and her husband took shelter at Kalai police station at night fearing for their lives.
It was learned from talking to neighbors and family members that the woman occasionally worked as a maid at Mejbahul Islam’s house in Punat Purbapara. On Friday evening, Mejbahul Islam called the woman. Then the two of them went to an abandoned house of Mejbahul. After a while, the woman’s husband also arrived there. Seeing his wife and Mejbahul inside the house, he started beating them. Then the woman’s husband grabbed Mejbahul’s hand and cut off his penis. Later, they started screaming. On hearing their screams, locals came to Mejbahul’s abandoned house and rescued him in a bloody state. Later, Mejbahul was admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra. When Mejbahul’s condition deteriorated there, the doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The woman said, “There is a shortage in the family. My husband cannot do much work either. So I work as a maid in their house. The owner of the house, Mejbahul, had been bothering me for a long time. I work for my stomach, so I did not have the courage to tell anyone. On Friday night, Mejbahul called me and took me to an abandoned house, telling me about work. Then Mejbahul hugged me and tried to rape me. When I resisted, he beat me. Then, seeing no way out, I cut off his penis with a blade to save myself. Later, my husband came here with others.’
Mejbahul’s father Alhaj Aftab Hossain Mondal said, ‘We had a dispute with them about cutting trees in the cemetery. Still, seeing their helplessness, the woman was called to work at home from time to time. I don’t know what their relationship was? Even then, the woman’s husband called my son from home in the evening and, in a pre-planned manner, the husband and wife and their brother-in-law beat him up and cut off his penis. I came to the police station to file a case against them.’
Kalai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahid Hossain said around 12 midnight, ‘The incident site was inspected at night. The incident of the young man’s penis being cut off is true. The victim woman and her husband came to the police station at night and filed a written complaint. Currently, both of them are in police custody. However, the other party has not filed a complaint yet. Preparations for the case are underway in light of the woman’s complaint.’
