A drive has been conducted in Palash Bari to protect native fish and prevent the blockage of water in various water bodies.
The drive was conducted in several water bodies of Barisal Union of the upazila on August 11 (Monday) afternoon.
At that time, the mobile court was led by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Al Yasa Rahman Tapadar. He was accompanied by Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Abdul Ahad Laju, Upazila Agriculture Officer Fatema Kawsar Mishu, and Palash Bari Police Station SI Mahfuz.

Various species of native fish lay eggs in water during the months of Ashadh-Shravan. During this time, the Upazila Fisheries Department decided to conduct a mobile court in response to allegations that various illegal devices are being used to catch native mother fish and that obstacles are being created in the flow of water from bridges and culverts in various ways. This drive was conducted in several bridge culverts and water bodies on Monday afternoon.
Local farmers said that rainwater is being blocked in some places, due to which the rice we planted has been submerged under water and ruined.
Palashbari Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Al Yasa Rahman Tapadar said that mother fish are being caught and collected using illegal devices, and obstacles are also being created in some places by blocking water. We have received such complaints and have initially warned them by going to a few places today.
