Moulvibazar’s daughter Shahania wins England election

Moulvibazar Correspondent:

Despite the disappointing results of the Labour Party and the triumph of Reform UK in the UK local government elections, Bangladeshi-origin Shahania Chowdhury has maintained her winning streak. She has been re-elected as a councillor from the ‘Wealdstone North Ward’ in England.

For 25 years, the two councillor seats in this ward were held by the Labour Party. However, in this election, the Labour Party had to lose one seat to the Conservative Party in the face of fierce competition. Even in such adverse circumstances, Shahania Chowdhury’s victory has brought relief to the party’s leaders and activists.

Shahania Chowdhury’s ancestral home is in the traditional Kalapur Chowdhury house in Kalapur Union of Srimangal Upazila of Moulvibazar district.

Her father, Shahidul Islam Chowdhury Liton, is a well-known face in mainstream politics and the Bangladeshi community in Britain.

Shahania Chowdhury, who grew up in a political family, was the first female councilor of Srimangali (Moulvibazar) in the UK.

Locals said that voters re-elected her because of community development, hard work and being by the side of the common people. Her success has brought joy to the social, political and cultural arenas of Moulvibazar and Srimangal. Shahania Chowdhury is the cousin of prominent social figure and Srimangal Upazila BNP joint convener Tuhin Chowdhury.

Shahania’s parents have expressed gratitude to the voters for their daughter’s continuous success and have sought prayers and blessings from the people of Moulvibazar and the country, so that she can continue to serve the people with honesty.
