Shamshunnahar Banya, a nursing graduate, lived as husband and wife with her lover Naeem without marriage. Even when pressured for marriage, Naeem would avoid it. Finally, Banya committed suicide by hanging herself. And Naeem is in police custody. The incident took place in a house in the Palbari area of Jessore city.
Banya is the daughter of Harun Or Rashid of Raghunathpur village under Benapole Port police station. And Naeem is the son of Mahbub Alam of Balia Vekutia village in Sadar upazila.
Naeem, who is in police custody, told the police that they had been in a love relationship for a year. They rented a house at the Palbari intersection of the city and lived as husband and wife, which even the owner of the house did not know. Naeem worked at a contracting company called Amotak BD in Nawapara Bazar, Abhaynagar. And Banya has passed nursing. Banya often proposed marriage to her. But Naeem avoided her, citing job stability and getting his younger sisters married.
Finally, Bonya realized Naeem’s deception. On Saturday morning, without getting any money, she committed suicide by tying her headscarf around her neck in her rented house. Naeem was at home at the time of the incident. He quickly rescued Bonya and brought her to Jessore General Hospital. Bonya died by then. Naeem was taken into police custody from the hospital.
Upon hearing the news of Bonya’s body being recovered, her relatives rushed to the General Hospital. They burst into tears after seeing Bonya’s body in the morgue.
The deceased’s father, Harun Or Rashid, said that they did not know anything about his daughter’s relationship or marriage. I heard after her death that she was in a relationship with Naeem.
Mother Rehena Khatun said that they are still not sure how her daughter Bonya died. However, they have heard that she committed suicide by hanging herself.
SI Minara of Jessore Kotwali Model Police Station said that a case of unnatural death has been registered at the police station for Bonya’s death. Her family has no complaint about the death. They did not agree to file a case of incitement to suicide. SI Minara further said that Bonya’s alleged husband, Naeem, was given into the custody of her father, Mahbubur Rahman.
