An open lottery was held in Ulipur, Kurigram, under the supervision of the army and a joint initiative of the upazila administration and food department to recruit dealers for the OMS (Open Market Sale) food-friendly program.
The lottery was held at 11 am on Wednesday (August 27) at the Ulipur Upazila Parishad Auditorium Hall. The main supervisor of the program was Major Shahriar Ahad, Camp Commander of the Kurigram Army Camp of the Bangladesh Army.
Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Nayan Kumar Saha, Upazila Food Officer Misbahul Islam, Upazila Agriculture Officer Mosharraf Hossain, Ulipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Nazmus Shakib Sajib, Upazila Administrative Officer Riazul Islam, Upazila Food Warehouse Officer Mohammad Ali were also present at the lottery program.
Upazila BNP convener Haider Ali Miah, Upazila Secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Hafez Touhidul Islam Touhid, and Upazila President of Islami Andolon Bangladesh Maulana Ataur Rahman were present as political and social representatives.
In addition, journalists from print and electronic media, all applicants of the upazila and people from all walks of life were present at the time.
According to the upazila administration sources, the lottery process was completed in a completely transparent, impartial and accountable manner. The people present commented that the presence of the army has further strengthened the trust of the common people in this process.
