With the theme ‘Achieve Literacy, Build a Digital World’ – a discussion meeting was held in Chuadanga on the occasion of International Literacy Day 2025 on September 8. The meeting was organized by the joint initiative of the District Non-Formal Education Bureau, Chuadanga and the District Administration, Chuadanga.
The meeting, organized at 10 am in the conference room of the District Commissioner’s office, was attended by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahirul Islam as the chief guest. Also present as special guests were Superintendent of Police Mr. Khandaker Golam Maula and District Education Officer Md. Dil Ara Chowdhury and District Primary Education Officer Ahindra Kumar Mondal.
The meeting was presided over by Assistant Director of the District Non-Formal Education Bureau Md. Sohag Hossain. In his welcome speech, he said that literacy is not just about knowing letters, but its importance in the overall development of the country is immense. The Bureau of Non-Formal Education is working tirelessly to eradicate illiteracy.
Chief guest Mohammad Zahirul Islam said in his speech that achieving 100 percent literacy is essential to maintain the development trend of Bangladesh. The current government has taken up various programs by prioritizing non-formal education. He further said that there is no alternative to literacy to fulfill the dream of Digital Bangladesh.
Only an educated population can develop and prosper the country. Superintendent of Police Mr. Khandaker Golam Maula said that illiteracy often increases the tendency to crime. Literacy makes people aware and helps them stay away from various social crimes. He called on people from all walks of life to come forward to promote literacy.
After the discussion meeting, a colorful rally was taken out on the occasion of International Literacy Day. The rally circled the main roads of the city. Officials of various government and private organizations, teachers, students and the general public participated in the rally. The speakers at the event presented various recommendations to further accelerate non-formal education programs.
The speakers said that along with the government, private organizations and the wealthy in the society should come forward so that no person in the country remains illiterate.
