Hatia (Noakhali) Correspondent:
A mother of three was allegedly raped in Chanandi Union of Hatia Upazila, an isolated island in Noakhali, but a fight broke out at the scene, police have claimed.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Anwar Hossain, in charge of Hatia Circle, told the media about this at around 10 pm on Saturday.
Earlier, on Friday night, a woman (32) was allegedly raped and tortured in her own house in Chanandi Union for voting under the National Citizens Party (NCP) symbol of Shapla Kali. On Saturday afternoon, she went to the Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital for treatment and complained to the media. Later, after receiving primary treatment in the emergency department, she was admitted to the hospital’s gynecology department. It is known that the victim is a resident of the local Nalerchar shelter project.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Abu Tayyab Md. Arif Hossain told the media that after learning about the complaint through social media and journalists, an additional police superintendent was sent to the spot for investigation. Speaking to the locals, it was learned that no rape incident took place there, but a fight occurred in the Ashrayan project area. He also said that the person against whom the complaint was filed was admitted to the hospital two hours before the incident. However, the police official said that legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received.
In this regard, Alauddin Rony, former president of the Hatia Upazila branch of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), said that the rape allegation spread on social media and various media is baseless. He claimed that the National Citizens Party (NCP) is running such propaganda to tarnish the image of BNP. At the same time, he demanded that the real incident be revealed through a fair investigation and the culprits be punished.
