The owners’ association has announced an increase in the amount of financial assistance to support the families of members of the Rajshahi Road Transport Group after their deaths. Earlier, the amount of two lakh taka was increased to four lakh taka, and later, in view of the demands of the members, it was decided to increase the posthumous assistance to five lakh taka.
A check of four lakh taka was handed over to the families of two members at a function organized in the auditorium of the Rajshahi Road Transport Group on Saturday afternoon.
The function was presided over by the general secretary of the Rajshahi Road Transport Group and the North Bengal Road Transport Association, Md. Nazrul Islam Helal. Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP President Mamunur Rashid Mamun was present as the chief guest. The main speaker was the general secretary of the Metropolitan BNP, Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, and the senior vice-president of the Metropolitan BNP, Nazrul Huda, was present as the special guest.
Also present were Rajshahi NESCO Nationalist Power Workers Union General Secretary Nazrul Islam, along with the Metropolitan Youth Party, Volunteer Party, and Transport Owner-Worker and Employee leaders.
In his speech as the chief guest, Mamunur Rashid said, “Earlier, the posthumous assistance was two lakh taka. On the initiative of General Secretary Nazrul Islam Helal, it has been increased to four lakh. Now, as per the demands of the members, a proposal to increase it to five lakh taka has also been accepted.” He highlighted the labor and sacrifice of the transport sector and said that working in this sector is very hard work and mentally stressful. Supporting the current leadership, he assured to be by their side in any problem in the future.
General Secretary Nazrul Islam Helal said, “Today, we have handed over a check of four lakh taka to the families of two members of Priya and Ali Transport. From next year, this assistance amount will be increased to five lakh taka.”
He also said that compared to other owner associations in the country, the Rajshahi Road Transport Group has been operating with a good reputation. He also mentioned that the association is being run in coordination with the owners and on the basis of transparency. He said, “Our income is low, expenses are high – yet we are working by prioritizing the welfare of the owners.
Nazrul Islam Helal said that in addition to Tk 5 lakh posthumously, an additional Tk 10 thousand will be provided for burial activities. In addition, if a member dies, the posthumous assistance will be paid within 40 days, so that the family gets financial assistance quickly.
According to those involved in transportation, this decision will give the owners’ families some financial relief and confidence in the organization will be stronger.
