Akhtaruzzaman, Tanor (Rajshahi) Correspondent:
The citizens of Tanor Municipality in Rajshahi are suffering from unbearable mosquito infestation. The general public, including students, are suffering from mosquito bites day and night due to the lack of effective measures to kill mosquitoes for a long time. Especially school and college students are unable to study in the classroom due to mosquito bites. Locals complain that the mosquito outbreak has taken a terrible shape due to the lack of spraying of mosquito repellents for several years.
The affected citizens said that the drains of Tanor Sadar, Gollapara and Talanda Hat are not cleaned regularly. In addition, mosquito breeding has increased in garbage piles and rotten water in canals in various places. The mosquito infestation is so high around Thana More and Model School that even burning coils is not getting rid of it. Traders complain that despite collecting a large amount of revenue from the hat, the authorities are not paying any attention to cleaning the garbage and killing mosquitoes.
Conscious circles believe that the appointment of administrators instead of public representatives after the political changes after August 5 has further stalled the Trinamool’s civic services. Mahbubur Rahman, the municipal assistant of Tanor, said that due to the oil crisis, mosquito repellent spray is not being carried out. Necessary measures will be taken once the oil is available.
Although attempts were made to contact Naima Khan, the administrator and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Tanor Municipality, on the phone in this regard, she could not be reached. The residents of the municipality have strongly demanded that effective measures be taken to kill mosquitoes before the monsoon season.
