A 13-year-old girl in Kaliganj, Gazipur, has become five months pregnant after being raped for a long time. When the incident came to light, the local people arrested the accused, beat him up and handed him over to the police. The arrested accused is Abdur Rahim (60), son of the deceased Wahab Ali of Baligaon area of Kaliganj Municipality. He was a rickshaw puller by profession, and worked as a caretaker in an organization. He was fired from his job 15 days ago due to his immoral activities, and is now unemployed.
Police and locals said that the wife of Md. Morshedul Islam of Nilphamari, along with their three daughters, lived in the house of Aminul Islam in Baligaon area behind the Upazila Sub-Registry Office and worked at Ha-Meem Group. On the night of November 4 last year, when the victim’s mother went on night duty at the factory, the accused Rahim entered their house. Rahim raped the girl by tempting and intimidating her. He threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident and continued to rape her repeatedly. At one stage, the girl’s physical changes came to the attention of the locals.
During interrogation, she revealed the name of Abdur Rahim. Later, on Monday evening, the locals arrested the accused and beat him up. After being beaten up, the accused confessed to the incident. Later, the locals handed him over to the police. In this incident, the victim’s mother filed a rape case with Kaliganj Police Station {Case No. 28(5)26}.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station Md. Zakir Hossain said that the accused Rahim was injured in the beating and sent to the court after receiving first aid. The victim has been sent to the hospital for a health check-up. Appropriate legal action will be taken in this regard.
