The country is now stable and ready for elections, says Chief Advisor Dr. Yunus

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent:

The chief advisor to the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, said that the country is currently politically stable and ready for elections. He said that the national elections have been scheduled for the first half of February.

The chief advisor made these remarks at an international conference on the Rohingya issue held in Cox’s Bazar around 11:30 am on Monday. He said,

“It is our moral responsibility to stop the armed killers from implementing the horrific plan of ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya. The Rohingya were given shelter in Bangladesh on humanitarian grounds in 2017. Everyone needs to take initiatives to solve this problem internationally.”

Dr. Yunus presented a seven-point proposal to resolve the Rohingya issue. He called on the global community to take effective steps to save the Rohingya from the persecution of the Myanmar junta and the Arakan Army.

He also said that with stability and a safe environment ensured in Bangladesh, the people will be able to participate in fair and just elections. This will strengthen the country’s democratic process and increase confidence among voters.

Political analysts believe that Dr. Yunus’ statement can be considered as proof of the country’s political preparedness and international prestige. At the same time, it will also increase international attention on Bangladesh’s proactive policy in dealing with the Rohingya crisis.
