Mango trees have started to bloom in almost all the gardens of Shibchar upazila of Madaripur district. The branches are covered with yellow buds. A captivating scent is spreading all around. It is like a great combination of yellow and green. Along with the humming of bees, the surrounding nature is filled with the songs of bees.
On going to the field, it can be seen that along with the fragrance of various flowers, the sweet scent of mango buds is floating in the air. The aroma that captivates the mind. A swarm of bees roams around the mango garden with the humming sound. Small birds also sit on the buds with joy.
Locals said that almost all areas of the upazila are covered in buds. Since the weather was favorable at the beginning of the season, private mango trees including gardens have been filled. The gardens have Amrapali, Gopalbhog, Langra, Fazli, and Hadibhanga varieties.
Visiting the gardens, it can be seen that more buds have come from large and medium-sized trees than from small ones. However, the mango yield depends on the weather. If the weather is favorable, the small garden owners of Shibchar Upazila are hoping for a bumper mango yield this year.
Mango farmers said that buds have come early this year. Now they are spending a busy time taking care of the mango trees, including applying fungicides, to get a good yield. If the weather is favorable, the farmers will get a bumper mango yield this year.
Shibchar Upazila Agriculture Officer and Agriculturist Alimuzzaman Khan said that many new entrepreneurs in the upazila are also moving towards mango orchards in addition to various fruit orchards. Our agriculture department provides advice on regular mango tree care throughout the year. By irrigating the trees with water through a dam, the trees get regular food. This year, we hope for a bumper mango yield.
