A program to distribute free seeds and fertilizers to small and marginal farmers in the current Kharip 1 season in Gobindaganj Upazila of Gaibandha has been launched. This initiative is being implemented under the government’s agricultural incentive program.
On Saturday (April 4), at 10 am, the program was inaugurated by the Upazila Administration and Agricultural Extension Department at the Upazila Parishad meeting room. Gaibandha 4 Gobindaganj constituency MP Md. Shamim Kaiser Lincoln presided over the program. Upazila Agriculture Officer Krishibid Mehedi Hasan, Upazila BNP convener Faruk Ahmed, Municipal BNP president Rabiul Kabir Monu, Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Hadisur Rahman, Jute Development Officer Saddam Hossain, Assistant Secretary General of the Central Executive Committee of the National Journalists’ Association, Sajadur Rahman Saju, and others were present at the program.
According to the Upazila Agriculture Office, seeds and fertilizers will be distributed to a total of 4,230 farmers in the upazila under this incentive program for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
Of these, 150 jute farmers will be given 1 kg of seeds and 10 kg of fertilizer, 30 sesame farmers will be given 1 kg of seeds and 15 kg of fertilizer, 30 moong farmers will be given 5 kg of seeds and 15 kg of fertilizer, 20 turmeric farmers will be given 100 kg of seeds and 10 kg of fertilizer, and 4,000 Ufshi Aush rice farmers will be given 5 kg of seeds and 20 kg of fertilizer.
More than a hundred farmers from different unions participated in the program. The farmers expressed satisfaction with receiving this timely government assistance and mentioned that such initiatives are helpful in increasing production.
Speakers at the program said that the government’s continuous incentives and support programs are playing an important role in advancing the agricultural sector, said Upazila Agriculture Officer Mehedi Hasan.
